High Sheriff Young Citizenship Awards Ceremony at Telford College.
I have definately gone de-mob happy as I forgot to take any photographs of this ceremony that is the highlight of an High Sheriff’s year. To listen to over 50 citations about remarkable young people and what they are doing in the community is absolutely humbling beyond belief.
The winners, Jade and Kyra Jones are true heroes, they have had a very unwell mother and so administered medication when she was unable to, cleaned and dressed father’s wounds after he suffered a collapsed lung, made meals, did housework and still carried on with their school work as well as raising funds for Macmillan Cancer.
The runner up was a young lad of 5yrs called Cameron, he has collected over 50 toys for children at Hope House and the childrens’ wards at the local hospitals when he heard about children who didn’t get to spend Christmas at home because of illness.
I hope all those present enjoyed the evening as much as I did, there were certainly a lot of proud parents listening to their children’s achievements.
My name is Alix Morgan and I also won the High Sheriff’s Award for the county of Shropshire 2010.
I have to admit that I’m quite disappointed and hurt with this blog as I am not mentioned even though I won the other top award.
I was also disregarded in the local newspaper, even though my award was out of the whole of Shropshire.
My school, family and friends were so proud of my for recieving such an amazing award and I feel as though it has been extremely underplayed.
Yours sincerely,
Alix Morgan
Dear Alix, I am very sorry that you are disappointed by my blog and that you feel you were disregarded by the press. I certainly had no intention of upsetting you as we had already recognised that you have done some outstanding work in the community. It is very difficult to get the press to cover exactly what you want them to, and at times it is much more successful to write a report oneself and send it in. I can only suggest that if you are prepared to write a suitable report I will see if TCAT has a suitable photograph and we could see if they will cover the story now. My congratulations to you for the outstanding work that you have done in volunteering, raising funds and caring. You are a most remarkable person. Yours Anna Turner
